Stephen Laurie has a degree in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and enjoyed a long career in finance. Although not a professional programmer, he has written many programs both for financial modelling and for his hobby of astronomy. Like Satoshi he has programmed in BASIC on a Commodore 64 and like Satoshi he has also programmed in C++, although he is certainly no expert in that language.
